In accordance with 20 CFR 422.406(b)(1), the Commissioner of Social Security gives notice of Social Security Ruling SSR 96-8p. This Ruling states the Social Security Administration's policies and policy interpretations regarding the assessment of residual functional capacity (an individual's ability to perform sustained work activities in an ordinary work setting on a regular and continuing basis) in initial claims for disability benefits under title II of the Social Security Act (the Act) and supplemental security income payments based on disability under title XVI of the Act.
