These proposed regulations would revise the current regulations governing how we apply holdings of the United States Courts of Appeals that we determine conflict with our interpretation of the Social Security Act or regulations in adjudicating claims under title II and title XVI of the Social Security Act (the Act). The regulations explain the new goal we have adopted to ensure that Acquiescence Rulings (ARs) are developed and issued promptly and the new procedures we are implementing to identify cases pending in the administrative process which might be affected by ARs.
